Top 10 Things to Do Near Newgale Beach – A Local’s Guide to the Best Bits of Pembrokeshire

Comments Off on Top 10 Things to Do Near Newgale Beach – A Local’s Guide to the Best Bits of Pembrokeshire

If you’re planning a trip to the stunning Pembrokeshire coast — great choice. We’re lucky enough to live here, and we can promise you, there’s nowhere quite like it. With its wild coastline, hidden coves, and ridiculously pretty villages, this corner of Wales has a way of stealing your heart.

Whether you’re booked into one of our lovely Self-catering Cottages at Newgale Holidays or just browsing for ideas, here are our top 10 favourite things to do near Newgale Beach.

Surf, Swim or Just Sit and Stare at Newgale Beach

Let’s start with the obvious one. Newgale Beach is huge — two miles of soft golden sand, backed by a dramatic pebble bank. It’s a favourite for surfers, swimmers, beachcombers, and anyone who just wants to flop down with an ice cream and watch the waves roll in. If you’re staying with us then catching a sunset here is a must!

Walk the Pembrokeshire Coast Path

One of the best things about staying in Newgale? You’ve got direct access to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, and the views are something else. Head north towards Solva for rolling clifftops and maybe even a seal or two, or go south and pass secret beaches like Pen-y-Cwm.

Explore the Tiny City of St Davids

Just a 15-minute drive from Newgale is St Davids — the UK’s smallest city, but packed with charm. You’ve got the impressive cathedral, quirky little shops, great coffee, and a proper Welsh welcome. Pop into Oriel y Parc for art and walking info, or treat yourself to lunch in one of the many local cafés.

Take a Boat Trip to Ramsey Island

If you like a bit of adventure, book a boat trip from St Justinians (near St Davids) to Ramsey Island. It’s owned by the RSPB and is home to seals, seabirds, and sometimes even dolphins. The dramatic cliffs and sea caves are a treat — and the boat ride is half the fun!

Treat Yourself at a Local Pub or Café

After a day of adventuring, you’ll be ready for a bite to eat. There are loads of great places to eat nearby. The Victoria Inn, Roch is perfect for a post-beach pint, and MamGu Welshcakes in Solva is famous for sweet and savoury versions of the beloved Welsh treat (you’ve got to try the bacon and leek one!).

Try a Spot of Coastal Foraging or Wildlife Watching

Pembrokeshire’s coast is bursting with life. You might spot grey seals, puffins, or dolphins if you’re lucky! If you’re into your wild food, why not join a foraging walk? There are local guides who’ll show you what’s safe to eat and what’s just pretty to look at.

Pop into Solva

Solva is just down the coast from Newgale, and it’s a postcard-perfect harbour village. Wander along the quay, peek into the independent shops and galleries, or grab a crab sandwich and watch the boats bob around. There’s a lovely circular walk up the Gribin headland for panoramic views.

Try Camping Under the Stars (Just for a Night!)

Okay, we know our cosy self-catering cottages at Newgale Holidays are hard to beat (hello, log burners and sea views), but if you fancy mixing it up, why not try a night or two under canvas? Rainbolts Hill Campsite is based just above Newgale, Pembrokeshire and offers a brilliant camping experience nearby, perfect for getting back to nature without giving up all your home comforts. It’s a fun way to switch off and soak up those Pembrokeshire skies — just don’t forget your marshmallows.

Rainy Day? No Problem!

We’ll be honest — it’s Wales, and sometimes it rains. But that’s no reason to stay indoors (unless you want to!). There’s Hangar 5 trampoline park near Haverfordwest for kids to burn off energy, or Tenby and Narberth are both fab for a walk around and a coffee. Don’t forget there is always the option to stay cosy in your cottage with a book and a brew. Bliss.

Catch a Pembrokeshire Sunset (or Two, or Three!)

There’s something about the light here. As the sun sets over the sea at Newgale, the sky turns shades of peach, gold and orange you didn’t even know existed. It’s the perfect way to end a day in Pembrokeshire — ideally with a hot chocolate or a cold cider in hand.
