Over the years, we’ve been lucky enough to welcome guests to many wonderful parts of Pembrokeshire, but The Woodland Retreat – Solva holds a particularly special place for us. Tucked away in a peaceful setting, yet just moments from one of the county’s most beautiful harbour villages, it offers the perfect balance of seclusion and accessibility.

Just a short distance away lies the harbour village of Solva, and it’s somewhere we always recommend visiting. Even after all these years, it’s still one of our favourite spots.

The harbour itself is picture-perfect, with colourful cottages lining the water and boats gently coming and going with the tide. It’s a lovely place for a relaxed wander, and there are plenty of small independent shops, galleries and cafés to explore along the way.

When it comes to places to eat in Solva, you’re spoilt for choice. From fresh seafood and traditional Welsh dishes at local pubs to light lunches and homemade cakes in cosy cafés, there’s something for every taste. Many guests enjoy spending an afternoon here — a walk along the harbour, followed by a meal with a view.

Solva also provides easy access to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, one of the most breathtaking walking routes in the UK. From here, you can head towards Broad Haven or explore the coastline in the opposite direction, taking in dramatic cliffs, hidden coves and incredible sea views along the way.

These walks are one of the main reasons guests return year after year, and staying at The Woodland Retreat means you’re perfectly placed to enjoy them without the crowds.

While some of our other cottages near Newgale provide stunning sea views and direct beach access, this cottage offers a more tucked-away, nature-led experience which is ideal for couples, solo travellers, or anyone looking for peace and quiet.
